Cub Scout Camping

“Akela Camp was a great opportunity for my son to experience Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan for the first time and really got him excited about attending camp in the future. He has gone on to attend camp as a Boy Scout and has been very comfortable engaging in the program. The skills and sense of independence he has gained are invaluable.” -Greg Lawless, Parent and Assistant Scoutmaster

Come to Akela Camp at Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan with your Cub Scouts to watch them experience a preview of the Scouts BSA program. Watch them scale our climbing wall, swim and boat in Lake Killian, and let fun fly at Shooting Sports, all while being closely supervised by our staff. If your Scout is currently a Wolf, Bear, or Webelos, they can come to Akela Camp!

This 4-Day, 3-Night experience allows your Cub Scout to gain a sense of independence and have fun in the great outdoors, all while earning advancement. Campers can go swimming and boating at the waterfront, hiking around the camp, and work on their Scouting skills at a variety of program areas.

Registration is now open!

Important Information

Akela Camp takes place in Ma-Ka-Ja-Wan’s East Camp. All of East Camp is reserved for Akela Camp. If other members of your pack are also attending Akela Camp, we will automatically assign you to the same or adjoining campsites. Each campsite has pre-assembled platform tents with 2 cots in each tent and can also accommodate personal tents if you prefer to bring your own.

Meals are provided in our East Camp Dining Hall, and you will get to participate in the mealtime activities with our camp staff (you’re in for a treat!).

Scholarships

Thanks to many generous Northeast Illinois Council donors, we can provide scholarships for part of a Scout’s NEIC camp fees. We never want financial challenges to stand in the way of the Scouting experience. The process is completely confidential. Interested families should fill out the 2024 NEIC Camp Scholarship. Complete the scholarship application as soon as possible while funds are still available.

If you are a Scout leader or Camp Coordinator, consider forwarding this link to all your families, even if they haven’t signed up for camp yet or asked about financial assistance.
